Kerman (Kirman)

The carpets from Kerman have been appreciated by western collectors for many years. Kerman carpets are famous for their single medallion with an arabesque form called Eski-Kerman. Another famous design from this area is the "Tree of Life".

Quality: Kerman carpets and rugs have a very high quality much the same as carpets from Tabriz and Isfahan.

Size & Shapes: Kerman is famous for producing large sizes (18x10 feet). You can find smaller sizes also.

Colour: Kerman carpets have a very light colour, with red and blue colours lighter in comparison to the carpets and rugs made in other cities in Iran.

Texture: Wool, thin, very good texture piles..

Foundation: Warps are cotton, piles are wool.

Knots: Rugs and carpets from Kerman have a very tight foundation and the knot type is Persian. The number of knots varies and depends of the quality of carpet but the average is around 120Kpsi up to 842 Kpsi.

Price: Kerman carpets are beautiful and there is a very high demand for them all around the world. Expect to pay more money compared to the similar carpets from different regions.

Location: The city of Kerman is in Southeastern Iran, and has always been one the main carpet weaving centers. The city is the center of the Kerman province located Southeast of Tehran. The population of Kerman is around 2 million (Kerman city 340,000). Kerman is hot and dry in summer and cold and dry in winter.
