The Western region of Iran
has a long history of producing Persian carpets. Famous carpet
producing areas in the region are Senneh, Malayer, Hamedan
and Bijar. Bijar produces extremely tightly knotted rugs which
are very strong and long lasting. Senneh produces the most
respected rugs and flatweaves in all of Persia. Most Senneh
rugs consist of repeating designs. Malayer is a weaving district
South of Hamadan associated with very fine smaller rugs featuring
medallions. Hamadan is a major center for exports from the
surrounding weaving areas in Iran, generally featuring small
rugs with a firm texture and subdued Colours.
