| The Southern region of Iran
has both city and tribal designs. Shiraz is a town in Southern
Iran that is the capital of the Fars Province. Shiraz rugs are
generally loomed by nomadic tribes on the outskirts of the city
and are marketed in Shiraz. A Shiraz rug usually has a series
of three medallions. Shiraz carpets are known for their beautiful
combination of colors and pattern. Afshar is the name of a nomadic
tribe populating areas in South Iran around Kerman near Shiraz.
These distinctive rugs have a wool foundation with geometric
and floral motifs.
