Afshar


The carpets from Afshar have geometrical patterns. Afshar rugs and runners are made in Sharh Babak, Sirjan and Rafsanjan. Usually Afshar carpets have many different designs and there is no unique pattern to distinguish them. There are some similarities between Bijar and Afshar carpets.

Quality: The quality of Afshar carpets is excellent.

Size & Shapes: Most Afshar carpets do not exceed 8x5 feet. Afshar carpets have rectilinear designs.

Colour: They usually use natural colors. Light red, light ivory and khaki are common in Afshar rugs and runners.

Texture: Wool, thin, very good texture piles.

Foundation: Warps are cotton, Pile is wool.

Knots: Weavers of Afshar rugs make the rugs and carpets very tight with flat weaves.

Price: Afshar carpets are beautiful and there is high demand for them. You can expect to pay more compared to the similar sized carpets from different regions.

Location: The Afshar tribe is located around Sirjan, Sharh Babak and Rafsanjsan. The Afshar have a Turkmen origin and a long time ago lived in Northwestern Iran near Urmia Lake. Nadir Shah was a famous King that came from AFSHAR tribe who ruled IRAN. He settled the Afshar tribe in their current location.
